This page dedicated to Gerald Chadburn ... who at the age of 63 dared to hike the Desolation Wilderness in 2009.
See the photos below to understand why he did not make it to the 45th reunion.

"We were in there for three nights and four days before descending to Lake Tahoe and the BIG (yes, that is sarcasm) family reunion. Mountains climbed: Mt. Tallac, 9,735 feet...the photos which overlook the big lake, i.e., Lake Tahoe; Cracked Crag, just under 9,000 feet...the photo of the old guy (me) descending on a very rocky slope--mountain has a split in the east side which is about 200 feet wide and over 1,000 feet straight down--ergo, Cracked Crack--a split that turns your bowels inside out when you lean over and look down (I don't know why but Danny didn't get a photo; possibly vertigo). Lakes visited: Suzie Lake, Heather Lake, Aloha Lake, Clyde's Lake, Gilmore Lake. Passes climbed: Mosquito Pass, about 8,500 feet. Miles hiked: about 40. Weight packed in: 43 pounds for me, about the same for Danny--we carried 15 pound day-packs while hiking after the initial six miles or so to Heather Lake. The sunrise photo on Heather Lake was taken from the vantage point of our camp on the west side of the lake--stunning lake, with no neighbors. The Crystal Mountains photo is rather awesome--those are glaciers! My favorite animal shot is the very fuzzy, fluffy marmot who lived in the rocky upslope next to our camp."
